July has been a busy period for many of our competitive gymnasts and also a very successful one! The highlights have included a win at the British Team Gym Championships for the Junior boys team and a gold medal for Ruben in Tumbling at the Scalabis Cup in Portugal.
Head Coach Levent Charles spoke to the Southwark News shortly after the Team Gym win and said “Myself and Louise are extremely proud of the boys as they have consistently worked hard over the years to achieve this goal after placing sixth in 2019 and third in 2021.
“We’ve come from behind and demonstrated great discipline, determination and courage which has made it possible to beat the best in the country within our category.”
In the Scalabis cup, elite tumbler Ruben had been selected to represent GBR which is a huge achievement in itself, but also managed to win both the prelim round and the final to take the gold medal.
Head of Tumbling, Leon said ” The progress we’ve seen from Ruben over the past few months in the lead-up to this competition has been immense. I couldn’t be happier with the result.
“I’m so proud of how he handled the pressure and managed to compose himself in a different environment to secure the victory.”
SGL would like to extend its thanks to the GBR coaches that supported and looked after Ruben during his time in Portugal.
